Becoming an accredited designer. Registered Member of the Society of Garden & Landscape Designers

Celebrating a Milestone Year: Reflecting on 2025 and a Major Professional Achievement

As 2025 draws to a close, we’ve been taking a moment to reflect on the many highlights of the year. Alongside our wonderful success at the Harrogate Spring Show—where we were delighted to receive Best in Show and Premier Gold—there’s another achievement we’re extremely proud to share.

Earlier this spring, Melissa Morton successfully completed the rigorous accreditation process to become a Registered Member of the Society of Garden & Landscape Designers (SGLD). This respected professional benchmark required the submission of three garden design projects, including two where Melissa oversaw the implementation and build. The process demands not only design excellence but also a high level of technical competence, project understanding, and professional communication.

Why working with an SGLD-registered designer matters

Choosing to work with an SGLD-registered designer offers homeowners genuine peace of mind. Members are thoroughly vetted and adhere to some of the highest standards in the industry. This brings several key benefits:

  • Assurance of professional expertise
  • Technical knowledge that helps avoid costly mistakes
  • Proven design and construction understanding
  • Access to a reliable network of trusted industry professionals

In practice, this means your garden will be designed and delivered to a higher standard—more functional, sustainable, and refined—while also adding long-term value to your property.

As a registered member of the SGLD, Melissa Morton represented the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers by giving a talk at RHS Wentworth in July.

"Not only does the accreditation process validate your design skills in organising the layout and features of a garden, it also highlights the importance of clear communication with everyone involved. Communicating the design vision to a client is one thing; communicating the technical intent for construction is quite another, involving detailed drawings, specifications, and accuracy. Equally important is guiding clients through the many decisions required along the way, ensuring they feel informed, supported, and confident in the choices they make."
