Garden designs for a remodelled Arts & Crafts home

Current garden design, implementation and architect collaboration | Ilkley, West Yorkshire

The Brief

We are delighted to be working on an exciting property renovation for our clients who have recently purchased this stunning Arts and Crafts property. The house and garden are undergoing extensive modifications (including house extensions to the front and rear).

The site

The current garden (front and back) requires transformation to complement the new house design, enhance its functionality, and fit our clients’ lifestyle needs. The aim is to create a garden that integrates seamlessly with the remodelled house, providing a versatile outdoor space for various activities.

Design scope

Melissa Morton Garden and Landscape Design has been commissioned to provide a full design and implementation service to help Ian & Hilary realise their dreams.  Designs will accommodate the architects plans as early as concept stage to ensure we work towards a seamless transition between inside and out.

Masterplan

The masterplan divides the large garden into two zones: the ‘country garden’ and the ‘kitchen garden’.  The country garden consists of a patio terrace with outdoor kitchen, a Tea Terrace with water rill and pond.  The kitchen garden includes a glasshouse, raised beds and fruit cages.  This area leads to a ‘woodland orchard’ with a garden sauna.  The garden will also house a solar panel shed as an energy supply for the house.  Planting will be tailored to the various areas to soften the scheme.

"Melissa is an unassuming sponge, picking up and remembering details in casual conversations and capturing these in design briefs and concepts moving forward. Melissa also brought creative thinking in ways to bring out the feel of a design brief and is always up for a challenge to explore new territory. The presentation of the concept design was very useful as it captured the design brief and all the background thoughts leading up to the deliverable. It made the design come to life."
