From a blank canvas space to Premier Gold & Best in Show
Set within a compact 6 x 9 metre plot—the size of many new-build gardens—we aimed to demonstrate just how much beauty, structure, and atmosphere can be achieved in a small space. And we’re thrilled to share that our garden designs won Premier Gold and Best in Show at the Harrogate Spring Show at the end of April! Our previous blog post explored how we used the Golden Section and Fibonacci sequence to guide the layout, helping us create a space that felt balanced, inviting, and functional.
We worked with Paxman Landscapes who did a fabulous job of bringing the designs to life.

Planting
Planting in early spring is always a bit of a gamble to have plants performing in all their glory, so we planned a seasonal palette of plants and potential substitutes to create the rhythm, structure, and colour combinations we wanted. With a bit of last-minute help from generous exhibitors (thanks especially to Nick Fryer!), we were able to complete the planting scheme just in time.
We will share a full list of the final plant choices in an upcoming post.

Visitors comments
It was a joy to speak with so many visitors, many of whom commented on the clever use of space and how easily they could imagine adapting the garden for their own homes. The screening trees—Ilex ‘Nellie Stevens’—surprised many with their soft leaves and abundant spring flowers (soon to become berries), while our bespoke pergola sparked plenty of interest, especially from DIY enthusiasts keen to replicate it.
